The factory transfer case, drive shafts, cross member, exhaust, and slave cylinder all stay in their factory locations. The exhaust cross-over tube will require a hammered dimple directly under the transmission for clearance. This kit even uses the factory Jeep clutch kit , making sourcing replacement parts easy. Installation takes about 8 hours from removal of the NSG to final bolt tightening.
If you are interested in a TR Jeep kit for an automatic swap, future kits are forthcoming. The company is well known in the street rod world and is one of the largest dealers of Tremec transmissions in the USA.
The TR is a heavy-duty 5-speed transmission that was originally developed for 1-ton truck applications. Fully synchronized, the TR sports a super-low 6. With a torque rating of lb-ft based on a 15, GVWR , the TR is strong enough to handle everything from a stock Jeep all the way up to a fully built crawler with big tires and ultra-low gearing.
At only For years, folks have looked for a solution to the Jeep JK NSG problem after they start upgrading the Jeep with larger tires and heavier axles. Some of the NSG problems include broken bell housings, shifters popping out of gear, gears coming apart, and inconsistent shifts.
Repairing the NSG is extremely costly, and the only thing you can be sure of is that eventually the problems are going to return. The TR Jeep kit will solve this headache while retaining your ability to select your preferred gear at any time, rather than having some slushy automatic with a computer figure it out for you.
From the bellhousing that bolts to the 3. Transmission Computer The transmission computer is a small black computer with two wiring connectors. See a picture of one at the bottom of this article.
ABS computer and wheel speed inputs The ABS computer must be sent in to us so that we can verify the wiring, there are a couple different types of modules and the wiring is different for each. The purpose of the ABS computer is to provide wheel speed signals to the other computers. If you are using the rear-end out of a donor vehicle LX car or Grand Cherokee then the speed sensors on those axles can be used.
If you have an older rear-end then we have a tone ring and sensors kit that you may purchase to mount on the back of your transmission. These signals are required to make the transmission shift properly. We do not recommend purchasing a new ABS computer. Factory shifter The shifter module from a donor vehicle is required for this system. These shifters have a flat base so installation is fairly simple.
The LX car shifter is a shorter item than the Grand Cherokee shifter. The early V6 shifters will not work. The shifter is part of the computer system and tells the other computers what gear you have selected. Make sure you also get the shift cable and the wiring connector from the donor vehicle as these items will simplify installation in your vehicle. For the FCM we recommend getting it from a vehicle.
